The Art of Gift Giving ???

I am going to need your help with this inquiry and am hoping you will be able to help. You see I just love visiting your lovely blogs and I often find that one of you has been the recipient of a sweet suprise delivered through the post...I have but one question, how did the gift giver find your mailing address in order to suprise you? Often while reading a post I will make an instant connection and want to reach out and let that person know how much it meant to me by sending a small gift. Oh I'm always sure to leave a comment and tell the person but I want to do more, suprise them with a momento, but how? It always seems as if the recipient is genuinely suprised by the gifter's thoughtfulness, but how do you go about doing that for someone without actually having to ask for their address. Seems that would sort of ruin the surprise part...help!

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog. That is a gift in itself. Unless you know someone who has an address--asking via e-mail is the only way I know. MB

  2. I think most of the bloggers in our community love the idea of getting a little gift from a fellow blogging friend. I love the idea of giving a little something to someone I've really connected with. Once, I blogged about one of my son's interests and an awesome blogger asked me if she could send me a HUGE lego set that she wanted to get rid of. Via e-mail, I gave her my address and a week or so later it came in the mail. I agree with MB, I think there is no other way than to simply ask.

  3. Another way to find out the address is when you purchase something from them, or win a give-away they've had. The return address will most likely be on the package they sent you.

I think it's sweet that you feel such generosity toward other bloggers!

  4. I wish I could help you. I am still learning just the basics of this blog world. I would like to take this time to say thank you very, very much for the nice bookmark you included in my birthday card. That was thoughtful of you. I really appreciate it. The reason, I am thanking you in this fasion, is because I did not have your mailing address or e-mail. Regardles, I want you to know it was a lovely jesture on your part.

  5. Sometimes there are other people that are their blogging friends that have their address. Look to see who is a frequent commentor and then send a little whisper their way and tell them what it is you want to do. In most cases they will oblige! It's worked for me in the past!

  6. I know just how you feel. But the only way I know is to just ask for an address. Sometimes I've said something like "I'm getting my Christmas card list in order, could I please get your address." And a few times I've been able to ask another blogger who knows the person I want to surprise, and I can get an address through them.

  9. Thanks for visiting my blog. That is a gift to me. I'm not sure how to find the addresses other than buying something from them. I have learned a few addresses by participating in a swap. That is really fun to do. Love your blog.

  10. Hmmmm often it is to someone who has won a contest or purchased something from me. Sometimes I give surprise gifts out and ask for an address. I would ask a friend maybe..or goggle them - lots of folks come up that way too! Sometimes I just have to ask!!!
Thank you for popping by my Quilting Bee this morning. I too have a passion for the shore. Almost as much as the woods!! How wonderful that you have a cabin!! Whoo hoo - a dream of mine!

  12. Hi Diva, It's absolutely fine to 'copy my idea'. It's not like I was the first one to write books for my children! Remember, 'there is no original idea.' Think about it.

You have to ask bloggers for their addresses. You'd be surprised how many of these people know each other and have amassed addresses purely over time, through mailings and give aways.

It's funny you should mention this. This weekend I bought this little thing for a fellow blogger whose dog just died. I don't have her address, but she is mailing me something and I will wait and get it that way. Isn't it just awful to lose a pet?

    hahahahahaha

okay,SERIOUSLY, if you end up having to ask for the address, chances are if you wait about a week they're going to completely forget you ever asked because most of us are operating on 2 brain cells:)

it was good to hear from you,
    xoxo, jan

I don't think you will read this comment as it is way back...but..I am so regretting my not accepting your sweet offer of a little gift to those who did not will the "giveaway' prize.
Now I understand. I am sorry and wish I could do it over...I cannot. That is the way of so many things in life.
I hope you will forgive me. I know you a bit better now...and your generous off was so...you!
