The Unrelenting Heat Wave

...caused me to see things from
a new perspective.
I generally don't spend a great deal
of time in our pool,
sad I know, but usually if I'm in it
I'm involved in cleaning it.

I tend to feel guilty spending time
swimming when I see weeding, watering
and yard work I should attend to.

I am blessed with a beautiful home
and while I enjoy living here,
maintaining this yard requires alot of work.
So, back to the heat wave we're having...
I have found that while doing yardwork
I have needed to jump in the pool on
occasion lest my family come home in the
evening to find me passed out from heat stroke.
I found myself floating around and
looking upward towards the sky
(I didn't want to look anywhere I might spot
a wayward weed beckoning me to pluck it).
This new vantage point was magical,

I had forgotten what it was like to lie on
my back and peek through the tree canopy.
This was something I had done frequently
 as a child,
I need to do it more often!
This new perspective gave me new eyes,

if I hadn't looked skyward
I might have missed the crepe myrtles
blooming. I had spent so much time
focused on the ground staring at the weeds
that I didn't see the beautiful blooms
above me.

How many other times in  my life have
I had my nose to 'the grindstone'
and missed a gift simply because I did
not lift my eyes towards the heavens?

What are your eyes fixated upon lately?
Have you dared to look away from
the duties of the day so that you might
catch a glimpse of heaven here on earth?

  1. I know exactly what you mean, Diva. We get too focused on the task at hand sometimes, and miss the moment. :) That pool is beautiful! They would have to drag me out - lol!! xox Pam

  3. There is so much beauty to see, if we but have eyes (and time and inclination!) to see it.
I have found that since I have taken to doing blog challenges that I notice skies and flowers and beauty around so much more!

  7. To be honest, my eyes have been turned inward quite often lately.

BUT - I was dazzled by evidence of a breeze yesterday and spent a long time watching branches sway...hoping for a cool front. True.

  8. Diva, your house is just beautiful. It looks so peaceful and wooded. Love it! I used to have a big pool at my old house and I loved waking up at the crack of dawn with a cup of coffee and my bathing suit. I headed to the pool to enjoy the world and the water before the rest of the world caught on. I miss it sometimes but I love the freedom of my new life so much more.

  10. Well, good heavens, I'm so glad that you found the time (you certainly deserve it) to do some floating and gazing. Point well taken and believe me, I've been doing a lot of looking at the weeds instead of up to the blessings.

  11. I get what you're saying perfectly. I too found escape in our pool we once had. It was really lovely. I have to remind myself that I can't be a slave to yard and house work!!

  12. This post resonated with me because these days I seem to be so fixed with nose to the grindstone. Thank you for reminding me to look up more often. Your home is beautiful and that pool looks heavenly right about now. :-)
