There's a nip in the air today,
it's crisp and the trees are showing
off their best colors.
The mums have completely opened their
buds as if on cue for Halloween.
Our final farmer's market day of the season
was over flowing with gourds.
The leaves are falling as fast as my husband can blow
them into piles.
(this is not my husband but a google image)
The noise of all the blowers in our suburban
neighborhood creates quite a racket this time
of the year. I know it's not nearly as fast
but I like to do it the old fashioned way.
Where you can actually hear and feel the crunch of
the leaves beneath your feet.
Where you can smell the scents of autumn
wafting from the earth
instead of gas fumes.
My oldest son Josh has always been the expert
carver in our family.
From the time he was 14 or so until he moved
out on his own our front stoop was graced with the most
amazing pumpkins.
Now they sit on his own front stoop.
It requires a great deal of patience and the
right tools.
It's amazing the detail he gets with these tiny saws.
...and last but not least I want to
introduce you to the newest member
of our family,
isn't he the most darling ball of fur
you've ever seen?
I went to the vet's to get medication
for our dog and there was this
cutie pie in a crate asking
for someone to give him a forever home.
I just had to bring him home and now he is my
best little buddy, following me everywhere.
When he's super tired he sits at my feet
waiting to be picked up so he can nap.
My youngest son, Alex, named him
'Eli'
for one of his favorite movies
'The Book of Eli'.
Great movie if you haven't seen it yet.
Hope you are all enjoying this glorious
fall color where you are...
God really does like to show off
this time of year!
Sweet little kitten...glad that he's found a good home with you. How's the dog taking it?
ReplyDeleteThose leaf blowers do make the biggest racket. I'm with you, give me the rake. Speaking of which, that's tomorrow's chore.
Thanks for the movie recommendation...always looking for one.
Autumn is such a beautiful time of year....all the rich colors, the sounds of crunching leaves underfoot, the smell of smoke in the air. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThose pumpkins are works of art! They must take forever to carve but what originals.
Eli is adorable but then I'm always a goner when a kitten is around. I can't resist them.
Gorgeous photos of this lovely time of the year! I love the colour and lushness around!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pumpkins your son carved. we always had such fun carving pumpkins when the kids were younger. Now that they have moved out carving pumpkins just isn't the same!
Love your new addition!
Josh is an artiste extraordinaire. I did pumpkins with the carving sets two years in a row and then retired. Mine were good, but nothing like Josh's!
ReplyDeleteEli is adorable and he's perfectly Halloween-y.
I miss raking leaf piles and jumping in them.
Perfect photographs for an autumn weekend Diva! Congratulations, and welcome to the new member of your family. Eli is a sweet pea indeed! Kitties...be still my heart.
ReplyDeleteHugs...J
Love the colors and beauty of the season! And your sweet new kitty is just about the cutest! Thanks for sharing with us.

Aw, what a cute kitty! We have 2 black cats. I guess black cats are the last to be taken from a litter/pound. They wait for people like you and me to show up! lol! Lovely pictures. xox Pam
ReplyDeleteHalloween
ReplyDeleteThe night is dark
and the goblins are out,
and the witches and black cats
are prowling about.
And costumed creatures
the strangest I've seen,
are knocking on doors
'cause tonight's Halloween!
Happy Halloween dear Diva:-) Our Autumn colours are all gone now, the trees are bare but I can see that yours are doing beautifully yet! Your son is an amazing pumpkin carver, wow!!! Your new kitty is so darling, he's very lucky to have found such a loving home:-) xoxo
oh, so many things!!
ReplyDeleteraking leave vs. blowing - i'm with ya!!
the carved pumpkins - oh, my gosh. amazing.
(he could sell those and make some bucks before Halloween next year and all of the years past. These rich old ladies would pay him stupid amounts of money to do like three pumpkins for the front patios of their honkin' houses. Tell him i said.
And, Eli. Oh, my gosh. That's the cutest kitten in the world!! Oh. He needs to come visit the ranch. (And I saw the movie. I LOVE going to the movies and I am married in my dreams to Denzel *and a few others*:)
Hi There! I had a kitten that looked just like yours, I found him, he was dumped in an old car wrecking yard. I called him Licorice. He was the sweetest cat i ever had. He would sit on my dresser and watch me put my makeup on. Eli is a real cutie! xxMxx
