"Where Were You ?"

In the words of Alan Jackson's musical tribute to 9/11...'Where were you the day the earth stood still?' I dare say most of us have the memory of that day permanantly etched in our brains and our hearts, as it should be. Despite the rain and wind blowing here in the northeast I can still remember that beautiful crisp fall day as if it were yesterday. The beautiful sky day belied the horror that would take place that day. May we all continue to pray for the families of those lost on 9/11 and those responders who today are so ill because of the failout as they worked to rescue and recover. It hardly seems possible that it has been eight years since that fateful day, so much has changed, and in some regards so little. As a nation we need to ask God back into our lives, back into our schools and our courthouses...this country is in need of prayer now every bit as much as it was on 9/11. I am sure there are some who may take offense at my words and I'm sorry if you feel offended but I cannot and will not deny my beliefs, especially today.

  2. Thanks for the heartfelt message. You are right about having the memory of that day etched in our brains. I was living in California at the time and I was at a business meeting. It was 6:03 a.m. Pacific time when the first attack happened and I had just turned on the t.v. to watch the news as I got ready for the morning. I could not believe what was happening. We all went to the meeting and sat in disbelief watching the events unfold. Needlesss to say we did not have the meeting and we were sent home to be with our families (I was within driving distance). My husband was at a business meeting in Minnesota and could not get home. He set out on a cross country road trip with two other guys to try to get back to California. They finally ended up getting a flight out of Omaha, NE days later.
The reality of the day really hit home when I found out my neighbor was at the World Trade Center that morning. He was on the 82nd floor of the 2nd building to be hit. He heard the sounds of the first attack and decided to leave his building. He said announcements were being made to stay put but he decided to keep going and leave his building. Had he stayed he would have been right where the 2nd plane hit. I still get chills even now when I recall this story.
May we never forget all of the innocent lives that were taken on this fateful September day.

  3. I couldn't agree more!! I am so saddened when I think about how short-lived our country's renewed allegiance to God and Country was. I can only hope that it will not take another devastating event to turn their hearts again.
Thanks you for your heartfelt post and photo today.

  4. I will never forget this either. I was pregnant during that time and I thought: oh my God, this is world war III.
I just cried and cried and cried...I feel so deeply for all who have lost lives, friends, families....
I must always think of that little 8-year-old, born on that day, while her father's life passed away in WTC.

  7. You have humbled me with your willingness to share your faith publicly and at the risk of offending. Those who take offense needn't be coddled. It might be your loving, sympathetic and bold post that would show someone who is unfamiliar just how loving, sympathetic and bold God is on our behalf.
It is so sad that any of us should feel timid about our love for our country and for our God at the same time we are remembering such a horrible action of those who despise our country and our God and show it this way.
I'm so glad you wrote your post :).

  8. You are so right! I remember exactly where I was, and when I heard someone talking about it, I thought there must be some terrible mistake. It was surreal, and yes, we need to remember, and remember that God is who we need to cry out to, not government or anyone else. He is the only answer. Have a wonderful weekend! Jackie

  9. It wasn't just our allegiance to God and Country that was short-lived; it was also how our kindness to one another vanished in a flash. Remember how everyone seemed to go out of their way to be helpful and polite after 9/11? How have we gotten so much so wrong for so long?

I thought it was so appropriate that it rained in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states on the anniversary of 9/11. It should rain on every anniversary of 9/11.

  10. Thank you so much for visiting me and entering my giveaway! Yesterday is always a wierd day for me, remembering the horror that I felt working and waiting on patients that day, going on with our daily lives as we watched the tv in the waiting room and heard the unthinkable play out. I will never forget exactly what I was doing when the first tower was hit.
    Thanks again,
    angela

  11. Such a sweet post...

I remember I was getting ready to go to Jury Duty that morning. We lived in a little duplex and I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when my husband called me into the living room to see the television. I still get chills when I think about that morning.

  13. Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and needed post. I remember exactly that dreadful morning. I was getting ready to go to our WTC here in Dallas. While getting ready we had the TV on and saw everything as it happened. We were in shock as the events unfolded before our eyes. Our WTC closed right away and we sat by the TV all the rest of the day in prayer and sadness.
We will never forget! WE raised our flag that day on the front of our home, and have not taken it down for 8 years, except to replace it when it wears out.

Thank you for stopping by and your kind comment. It is so nice to meet you and I enjoyed your lovely blog.

    God Bless America!
    Blessings, Celestina Marie

  14. First of all, let me say THANK YOu for the nice surprise in the mail today. You have no idea how much I was in need of something to put a smile on my face this afternoon. The timing was perfect! I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday. I had just arrived at work and one of my coworkers had a little TV set on. At first, we all thought there was an accident. It just kept building as we discovered it was an intentional ambush. Needless to say, by late morning, there was no way any of us were staying at work.

  15. Hi Diva!
I was just visiting sweet Lori's blog and she wrote about winning your giveaway. I was so impressed with how lovely it was, and how you wrapped everything so pretty, that I had to come visit, and I'm so glad I did! You tribute is very touching. I live on Long Island. I still can't hear a plane fly by without looking up and thinking about that horrible day.
    Hugs, Paulette

  16. Just popping back by to say, yes I did "back" my little ancestor. But I used a paper even heavier than cardstock. I got it at Michael's in the art department (I think it was 200 lb. weight, if I remember right). That just means it's extra thick. : )
    Good luck,
    M.L.

  18. What a beautiful, heartfelt post. I agree with everything you said. And thank you for the information on my stairs... I suspect you're right regarding building codes and safety reasons (especially since the first contractors said they weren't allowed to just cover stairs with hardwood for liability reasons)... And I sincerely doubt I will ever get anybody in my family to hang coats in a closet, so I probably won't be able to share any breakthrough with you on that end! ha ha And YES, the bannisters and chairbacks also make for coatracks in our home, too!!!! Have a wonderful week!... Donna

  19. Thank you for recognizing those who lost thier lives, and your belief that it should be remembered. I am not offended, but encouraged that there are still proud americans out there not afraid to say what they believe. Never apologise for that! I appricaite your comments on this blog, and mine. -Cori

  20. My little nephew in first grade was to do a school project based on 9 /11 It blew me away that he was not even born when this event so big in our history took place. he did a drawing of the towers and fireman. I am now to beginning to be aware of how many are sick due to the ashes of that day

  21. That awful horrible day will always be etched in my mind. Sitting in front of the TV like I did every morning back then, getting ready for work. Watching the Today show, unable to believe what I was seeing. Unable to move for days, one horror after another. May we never forget.
